In a few weeks I’ll be speaking at the Database Symposium at the ODTUG KScope13 conference. My topic, ‘SQL Developer v4.0’ will be one of the first times I spend an entire hour showing off our new features in the upcoming release.

While not yet publicly available, and while I can’t comment on when that will change, I can say we’re getting closer πŸ™‚

I thought I would reward my loyal readers with a quick ‘sneak-peek’ here first. I don’t say ‘thanks!’ enough, but thank you so much for all of the comments and feedback you folks share here. It really does help us make a better product for all of our users.

So I’ll let the picture do the talking here. And if you’ve been paying close attention to post pictures from the past few months, you may have noticed other changes coming down the pipeline!

  1. Jeff,

Oracle 12c is out. When can we expect SqlDeveloper 4.0 to be available ?

    • When it’s ready πŸ™‚ It will be released as an Early Adopter (EA) version for the community to digest and test on OTN soon.

Oracle SQL Developer and Oracle Database are under different development cycles/calendars.

    • Hi Jeff,
Have you done your SQL Developer 4 presentation yet? I’m hanging out to see any new info on this. (summary, presentation, etc)…

    • Yes I have! We’re getting closer to a release – close enough that I’m able to do previews at limited engagements like ODTUG, but not close enough that I can go into much detail here. Rest assured, you’ll hear about it first, here πŸ™‚

  2. Just curious,… will there be an early adapters version for 4.0? Any chance of that being released before your presentation?

Will you post the contents of your presentation (or at least a summary of the main points) after the conference?

Thanks for all your work in this space.

  3. We are planning to migrate to SQL Developer at work, but there are some UX problems with SQL Developer 3.2 that’s delaying the switch — looking forward to help beta-test 4.0 once it’s publicly available!

  4. Hi Jeff, I can’t wait for this new version. Any idea when we can expect a first beta?

    • Rinie,

I can’t wait either – so much that I broke my own rule with this post! Suffice to say, we’ve been working on this release since this time last year, and you can expect news ‘soon.’

You already hang out here, so you’ll hear about it before anyone else does anyway πŸ™‚
